This is a pair of very large breakfast cups and saucers in the beautiful, "Oiseau Bleu" pattern.
Oiseau Bleu is a popular and pretty design by the Belgian artist Isabelle de Borchgrave. It features a blue bird on a background of branches and flowers, with a variety of shapes and patterns running in a band around the rim.
Who made it and when?
These were made in the 1980s by Faïencerie de Gien, a long-established and highly regarded pottery manufacturer based in the Loire Valley of France. Faïence is the French term for high quality, tin-glazed earthenware. The company was founded in 1821 by Englishman Thomas Hall. The maker's mark underneath reads:
