This is a superb piece of pottery from Jane Hamlyn: a leaning, salt glazed jar with a fitted lid and curled handle. Jane Hamlyn is a highly regarded and widely exhibited British potter.

The blend of green and brown reminds us of ripe apples. It's a useable jar for storage but it's also a beautiful ornament.

Salt glaze is produced by adding salt and other ingredients into the kiln during the high temperature part of the firing. Jane Hamlyn is an expert.

Who made it and when?

It was made by British potter Jane Hamlyn. She was born in London and has been producing pottery from her South Yorkshire studio since 1975. Her work is highly regarded, winning acclaim and awards throughout Europe. Her "JH" mark is embossed near the base.
