What's for sale?
This is a large stoneware storage jar made by T G Green for their iconic, Cornishware range of blue and white striped kitchenware.
The range originated in the 1920s and has been popular ever since. The stripes are created by the removal of bands of blue slip (liquid clay) from the surface by a lathe. Other colours became available, but it was this electric blue from which the name "Cornishware" came (the blue and white reminded an employee of the sea and sky of Cornish holidays)
The range was wide and included jars of various sizes, most with lids and lettering to described the contents. And in addition to the usual labels such as "flour", "currants", etc., customers and other manufacturers could request jars with their own wording. T G Green never kept records of these, so there's no complete list of what's out there.
This is the large, unlabelled utensil jar which can be used for anything, including as an ornament or a vase.
Who made it and when?
It was made by T.G Green between the 1930s and 1960s. Without any label, it has the correct green backstamp (the majority of labelled jars will have a black backstamp). It reads:
