This is a 1930s, Art Deco, round, German ceramic cake platter by Theodor Paetsch.

This style of decoration is known as "spritzdekor", referring to the use of an airbrush and handheld stencils to achieve the patterns and colour graduations.

Such designs were popular in Germany throughout the 1920s and 1930s. They featured airbrushed and handpainted designs of squares, waves, triangles and stripes in bright colours. Initially, designs were angular, abstract and modernist, but in the early 1930s more natural designs began including plants and flowers. Colours also became more natural and subtle, with more use of yellows, browns and oranges.

It's also a functional item and is perfect for presenting a cake, torte or cheesecake.

It was made by Steingutfabrik Paetsch during the 1930s. The maker's marks underneath read:

The numbers in green refer to the pattern number.
