This is a large, Crown Ducal, hand decorated pitcher in a design by the renowned British designer Charlotte Rhead. The maker's mark on the base corresponds with her most productive period at the pottery, during the late 1930s.
The decoration is a beautiful pattern called Trailing Leaf, which was also available in blue. It's one of our favourite Charlotte Rhead designs and has a subtle mix of pink and grey over white with gold-coloured highlights. The mottled grey flecks continue inside. It's an eighty year old design which hasn't aged in the slightest.
This colourway was pattern number 3728, which is on the base. The matching pattern in blue was 3727.
It was made by the Staffordshire pottery A. G. Richardson and Co of Tunstall, for their Crown Ducal range. The maker's mark on this piece dates between 1935 and 1939. Below it are the pattern and other identifiers. On the base it reads:
