This is a vintage, 1960s, hallmarked, Sterling silver bangle or cuff bracelet, made in Birmingham, England with an engraved, fern detail, sprung fastener and safety chain.
The engraving runs around the upper or front half of the bracelet, while the other half is undecorated.
Who made it and when?
The maker is only identified by their stamp "M.J". There are two sets of punched marks:
- M.J
- An anchor (the symbol for the Birmingham assay office)
- A Lion Passant (the sterling silver mark)
- A "S" (which style matches 1967/68)
and on the other half:
- Another Lion Passant
- Another "S"
What condition is it in?
- Second-hand
- In good condition with signs of regular wear
- There are many fine marks and scratches
- There are two dents on the plain side of the bangle
- The chain is attached and unbroken
- The sprung fastener works well
What are the measurements?
- 7cm to 6cm in diameter (around 2.75 inches)
- 1.5cm wide (just over half an inch)
- 25 grams
