WMF Art Nouveau Pen Tray No. 117

A WMF Art Nouveau pen tray for sale

This is a polished pewter pen tray from around 1900, and a very nice Art Nouveau or Jugendstil design. It features three daisies in full bloom and one as a bud, in long grass. One of the daisies stems has been curved into a loop at one end of the tray.

The form number 117 is on the base. On the front is the WMF ostrich mark followed by "B" for Britannia Metal (a soft, silvery-grey alloy), and "OX" (oxydiert) meaning that the surface has been artificially darkened to a silver-grey or old silver finish.

The tray is listed under "Pen Trays" in the 1906 WMF catalogue as "No. 117 Pen Tray", stating that it was available in "silver plate white or old silver finish".

What condition is it in?

• Second-hand
• In good condition 
• Many fine scratches but no dents or breaks
• Scratches to the left of the flowers are very visible due to our studio lighting but far less noticeable under normal viewing conditions
