What's for sale?

This is a beautiful bracelet of red and black enamel and gold-plated Sterling silver, made by Norwegian jeweller David Andersen. Vermeil is the name given to plating silver with gold.

It comprises ten gold-plated, Sterling silver panels, joined via pairs of silver links and fastened with a push-pull tongue clasp.

On each wide panel is a basse taille, sunburst, visible beneath the red enamel. On the smaller panels with black background, are champlevé flowers in red.

Basse-taille (low cut) is the technique of engraving a pattern in relief and covering it with enamel, such that the engraving is still visible beneath.

Champlevé (raised field) is the technique of hollowing out bordered sections, filling them with enamel and polishing, such that a uniform height is achieved.

Who made it and when?

It was made by the Norwegian jewellery maker David Andersen, which has been producing innovative designs for over 130 years. The maker's mark reads:

  • A set of scales (the International Convention hallmark)
  • D-A
  • 925s
  • norway sterling
