What's for sale?
This is an original, stoneware, ginger pop soda bottle from the late 19th or very early 20th centuries. The transfer print on the front reads "Harry Berry Ginger Pop 1/2d" - half an old penny. We understand that Harry Berry was the owner of a fish and chip shop in Huddersfield, which is in northern England and that he made his own soda for sale in it.
Until the early 20th century, Stoneware bottles like these were in widespread use and produced in large numbers, with shapes, colours and branding to differentiate the contents.
They were mass-produced and roughly made, so most will have faults of various kinds, and because they were made to throw away, most of those around today will have come from old rubbish tips. Some had a screw top, but most had a cork bung.

- The body is undamaged and there are no major faults
- The top is evenly coloured
- The lettering is clear
- There is crazing, particularly noticeable lower down
