What's for sale?

This is a large, beautifully decorated, hand made and hand-painted, porcelain bowl or charger.

It's unsigned, but is typical of 19th century Japanese Arita ware, referring to the town in the South West of Japan.

The decoration depicts rocks, a tree with blossoms, butterflies and two birds. Standing out from all of this are small flecks of green foliage, making this an interesting example when compared with the pieces more commonly decorated in blue only.

  • Second-hand
  • In good condition with faults from manufacture
  • There are two noticeable firing faults on the inside of the bowl
  • There are also many pinholes and pits from firing
  • No cracks or chips

What are the measurements?

  • 6.5 cm (2.5 inches) high
  • 46 cm (18 inches) in diameter
  • 3.4 kg
