This is a nicely detailed, signed brooch by Napier.

It depicts a wild dogwood flower, with white bracts (which look like petals) and a centre of tiny gold tone flowers. Like the dogwood, the bracts are folded over at the ends to show that the gold colour from the reverse side.

The dogwood is a popular subject for American jewellery; it's also the state flower of Missouri and North Carolina.

Who made it and when?

It was made by the American costume jewellery maker Napier and is embossed on the back:

The copyright symbol was added to the name after 1955 and the uppercase lettering typically went out of use in the 1980s.
