What's for sale?

This is a set of four Art Deco style, green glass tumblers. They're from Sowerby's pattern 2550 Water Set, which included a similarly-styled jug. They're made from thick, moulded glass.

The set was available in clear glass and also in four colours: amber, blue, flint and green. All four colours can be found on our website. We also have an example of a complete set with jug, and several jugs without glasses. The glasses are harder to find than the jugs.

Who made them and when?

They were made by Sowerbys' Ellison Glass Works Ltd of Gateshead in the 1950s (see the catalogue reproduction at 20th Century Glass).

This set was sometimes made from Vaseline or uranium glass. These however are plain glass and probably from the late 1950s.

What condition are they in?

  • Second-hand
  • In very good condition
  • No chips or cracks

What are the measurements?

  • 9cm high
  • 8cm wide
  • 309 grams per glass
  • 1.2 kilos for 4 glasses
