What's for sale?

This is a handmade pitcher by British potter Jennie Gilbert, from her Mishima range of ceramics.

Mishima is the Japanese name for a technique, of Korean origin, for decorating ceramics. A pattern is engraved into the clay and then filled with a contrasting slip (liquid clay), before being scraped and smoothed back level with the surface. The result is a flush finish with patterns created in clay rather than being painted or applied.

This has been finished in a high-gloss glaze and signed "JG" on the base.

Jennie Gilbert is an accomplished practitioner of Mashima and we like her combinations of form, patterns and colours. This style of pitcher came in three sizes, and her Mishima range includes a variety of items such as bowls, platters and lamps.
