What's for sale?

This is a set of six cut-to-clear, lead crystal champagne flutes in six colours.

Their shape is of a classic champagne flute with a long, slender bowl and slightly inward taper at the top, which should keep the bubbles coming for longer.

The Traube (grape) pattern incorporates grapes, leaves and geometric lines, and demonstrates the quality of Nachtmann's glass cutters. They're made of 24% lead crystal, have an intricate, faceted stem and star-cut foot.

Cut-to-clear describes the technique of layering coloured glass over clear glass and cutting the pattern to reveal the clear glass beneath.

Who made them and when?

These are made by Nachtmann, the long-established, German manufacturer of lead crystal, based in Weiden, Bavaria. A couple of the glasses still have labels attached, some also have the Nachtmann monogram etched on the foot.

The Traube pattern has been made for many years, which means they're difficult to date.

What condition are they in?

  • Second-hand
  • In excellent condition
  • Some with labels and possibly unused
  • No chips or cracks

What are the measurements?

  • 21.5cm high (8.5 inches)
  • 5cm rim diameter (2 inches)
