Dunn, Bennett & Company

A brief history of Dunn Bennett pottery

Dunn, Bennett and Company were an earthenware and ironstone manufacturer based at Hanley and then Burslem in Staffordshire.  They produced tableware for hotels, ships and railways, so it's not unusual to found pieces that are branded in some way.

  • Founded in 1875 at Hanley, Staffordshire by William Dunn and William Wood-Bennett
  • In 1886 they moved to the Royal Victoria Pottery in Burslem, Staffordshire
  • In 1908 they became a limited company
  • In 1968 they were bought by Doulton & Company
  • In 1982 Royal Doulton sold their interest in Dunn, Bennett & Company (and also Steelite) in a management buy-out
  • In 1983 Dunn, Bennet production ceased; Steelite continues as a catering manufacturer
